  1. Frank Goodman says:

This result really surprises me but then again I would say it is for this same reason that we do need one. Do these people have children? Do they not know that they could be making them sick, maybe not now but in the future? These people need to be educated. Just another example of our “me ‘ attitude.

  2. Jane M says:

Yes Frank we have children and most of us do not idle. Good idea Frank – educate- how? Certainly not by enacting usless by-law that cannot be enforced and will cost us so much $$$.

  3. Frank Goodman says:

Yes Jane, many of us do have children. And many of those children, like mine, have breathing problems. It is enforceable as Mark says, sit outside any school, winter or summer, and a lot of money is to be made. If any place, this is where the engines should be shut off.It is not about making money. Is the whole “by-law program” cost effective? Of course, what do we do about the “untouchable” drive thrus? As for education. The media can help here by doing a public service of constant reminders. I would like to have available a pamphlet that I could use to pass out to people that I see unnecessarily idling giving the personal benefits and community benefits of “shutting it off”. Let’s be positive.

  4. Jane M says:

I also have kids with Asthma. I am not sure if you realize Frank that this by-law will not be enforced in sub 0 temperatures.. Can remember exactly. Education sounds much better… Maybe even school boards could do something about this… Educate parents through their kids…. Just a cheaper idea.
