City Hall Renovations

At yesterday’s City Hall Renovations Sub-Committee meeting, the sub-committee was given an update on the status of the renovation project at City Hall. I was very suprised to hear that the cost has escalated by over $20 million!

We need to seriously look at all options now in order to maximize our investment. There was a suggestion put forth yesterday that we partner with the Hamilton-Wentworth Public School Board as their facility is in need of desperate repair as well.

What do you think the City should do? Would you like to see a new Civic Centre?

Thank you Fred for bringing this subject back to the table.I still cannot figure out what water were the councillors drinking when they approved this building as a historical value? Totally agree. This building should be totally demilish as soon as possible. It is an eye sore. Hoping for a landmark that we could be proud of to replace our image as a steel city.

Thank you for hosting this blog, Terry. I would like to see City Hall demolished and replaced with a State-of-the-Art Civic Centre (where perhaps both Boards of Education are included). People need to realize that over the long term, it will be so much cheaper to build a new building vs. the current set-up because the City will not have to pay leases to house City staff in various buildings throughout the Downtown. Short term pain for long term gain. Also, this would be a great branding exercise too because look at Toronto’s City Hall – it is iconic.
