Integrity Commissioner
As you may have read in the Spectator, the Mayor is bringing forward a motion to direct staff to bring back a report respecting the implementation of an Office of the Integrity Commissioner. What are your thoughts on this subject? Agree? Disagree?

Not sure about this subject yet. Did not make up my mind. Tom, since you know so much about 7-8 counillors day to day activities so well, maybe you should apply for the posting. If you are so sincere then maybe you could do this pro bono and save us some money?
I agree that if the Councillors had been doing their job properly there would be no need for an Integrity Commissioner. This Commissioner must also be able to assess penaltys for inappropriate behavior. The findings should not be referred to Council for action as they have shown by past actions that they are not capable of making the hard decision when it comes to disciplining any of their fellow Councillors.
It is truly unfortunate that Mr. Eisenberger was able to make political hay around the need for an Integrity Commissioner. If Councillors abided by their strategic governance roles as members of the Board of Directors of a $1billion+ Corporation rather than as micro-managers trying to direct, influence and channel staff efforts pertaining to day-to-day operations, there would be no traction for the concept of an Integrity Commissioner. There are 6 or 7 Councillors – Mr. Whitehead you are among that number – who are more interested in the day-to-day minutiae of staff activities than in the big picture direction that the City should undertake. These Councillors are doing residents of the City of Hamilton a grave disservice.
