In 2007 I tabled a motion containing recommendations to ensure the viability of the Canadian manufacturing sector. The list of 22 Recommendations was put together originally by the Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology. These include matters related to capital write off, skill training, streamlining of regulations, strengthening of policies on anti-dumping and conservation safeguard, and research and development.
As a member of the physician recruitment committee we have engaged the services of a physician recruitment specialist, Jane Walker. Ms. Walker will be responsible for developing strategies and overseeing the recruitment of physicians to help alleviate the shortage of physicians we are currently experiencing in Hamilton.
Under the guidance of Ms. Walker, Hamilton has recruited 12 family physicians within this calendar year.

As Chair of the Planning & Economic Development Committee, I focused on the following important items crucial to Hamilton’s economy:
- Supporting the development of McMaster University’s Innovation Park (the former CAMCO site).
- Continuing with the strategic development of our Water front, which welcomed the Hamilton Harbour Queen cruise ship as a wonderful addition to showcase Hamilton’s Waterfront.
- Focusing on the development of the airport and capitalizing on its potential, the new Highway 6 South connection that passes by the Hamilton International Airport is the first step to make the airport more accessible and marketable.
- Developing our Industrial Parks to attract and retain valuable business within our community
- Establishing the “Business Ambassador Program” – this program will recognize and promote local business and will work to attract new businesses.
